  1. A mallard is a common wild DUCK Anas 
  2. platyrhynchos, found almost worldwide, from 
  3. which domestic ducks were bred. The male, 
  4. which can grow to a length of 60cm (2ft), 
  5. usually has a green head and brown breast, 
  6. while the female is mottled brown.
